Fashion: I Don’t Own, I Rent

A few years ago I used the Marie Kondo method on my closet. Honestly, I was shocked at the amount of clothes, mismatched socks, and shoes I had in my closet that I had not worn in a year. Things I only bought because they were on sale. Shirts that no longer looked good. Shoes that were worn out. Honestly, I was embarrassed that my closet was full of items I never wore when people in my community needed clothes and shoes.

The thing about my clothing though, is that I need variety for my job. For 8 years I was on camera every single morning. I was also working some red carpets, and doing long form interviews with celebrities on camera.

That’s where Rent the Runway came into my life. I heard about it and began using the service every single week. With a small break, I’ve used it for 5 years, 5 items per week.

When I say it has changed my life, I’m not exaggerating. If I need a gown for a big event, like The Breeder’s cup, I can add it to my shipment

I’ve also had plenty of fashionable outfits to wear on my travels. Instead of spending hours shopping for new outfits to wear, I can simply choose from my Rent the Runway closet and be set.

One thing that has made my life easier is that I have started using lists for certain temperatures and events. This way I have a bunch of options for my trip and I can choose from what is available.

The best part is that I can avoid laundry. I wear the items and then send them back in the same package they arrived in at my home. It is simple and easy.

In the past year I rented 230 items worth over $89,000 dollars. The time I saved shopping and panicking about what I had spent was priceless.
